Drunk In Love

Like everyone else in the world with good sense, I am obsessed with BEYONCÉ. And the visuals in the videos are ripe for fan art.

Craftmas!!

Craftmas has come and gone and it was just wonderful! It was so excellent meeting some more Rochester artists and finally getting to meet some RNEST members. Everybody was so lovely.

Friday was a bit slow and I didn't make any sales until the last 15 minutes of the night. I had high hopes but low expectations so I wasn't discouraged. But today was a total turn around! I sold consistently through the day and did a bit more socializing. So I'd say for my first show it was a success. And you know, the whole thing was really a great learning experience. I know what works now and what doesn't, I know more about pricing and what people are willing to spend on what items. And I learned a lot from the other artists there about presentation and that's something I will definitely be working on. Can't wait for the next one!

Next order of business, on Monday, is getting all the surplus items I made for the show into the shop! I have a good amount of earrings left, lots of hairclips including the Dalek ones, and Catmas cards will be reduced in price! Plus a few new buttons! Keep an eye out for that update, should be coming early next week.

I have been positively slaving away at the craft table the last couple days. I hit a bit of luck today with my button maker and cranked out quite a few.

Ooo spoilers! I should also mention that what isn't sold at Craftmas this weekend will be going up on my Etsy shop. And of course more will be made.

I've also been folding Catmas cards and assembling packages which look precious if I do say so myself.

The closer the day comes the more excited I am. Here's hoping I sell out completely and I have some cash in my pocket by the end. :)

Oh and I decorated our Christmas tree! Look how cute it is!

Craftmas prep or my boyfriend is a copy center expert

It is now t-minus 4 days until Craftmas, my very first craft show ever. This week is a scramble to get my shit in order. My pinback buttons are proving to be the most challenging right now because my press is not imPRESSing me (oh ho ho) with its behavior. Hopefully it stops being such a jerk tomorrow because I have so many new buttons to get cracking on. Even some new designs!

So instead of being pissy about my buttons I did more shrinky dinks today. I'm working on earrings now aaaand I got this glue and its power is intimidating.

So now I've got 10 pairs of earrings for the show. I feel pretty excellent about them. If I have time after I finish my button quota I might make more.

I've also got 9 hair clips, including two new Dalek ones. Daleks are so fun to draw, guys.

And I have to say, having a boyfriend that works in a copy and print center is so important to my journey. Not only does he print all my business cards, stickers, backing cards and buttons but he got me a sweet deal on cardstock so I could get a ton of my Catmas cards printed up for the show.

And, the most epic:

Fuck yeah, Staples. Fuck. Yeah.

AC-CESSORIZE!! AC-CESSORIZE!!

Welcome to my first post!! I am not much for small talk so let's get right to it, shall we?

Tonight I'm working with some shrink film (what us old foagies remember as Shrinky Dinks). I bought some clear shrink film about a week and a half ago to try out and quickly realized that the clear stuff was a total pain in the butt to work with. Especially for what I am doing with it (jewelry and accessories). So today I finally picked up some opaque white shrink film. MUCH much better for me.

Of course my first instinct was to draw something Dr. Who related because of reasons.

I like these little Daleks, they're not correct, strictly speaking, but they're cute and fat and diabolical.

I intended for them to be earrings so I doodled them up with some Sharpie markers. Then I baked my cute little Dalek friends only to find out a few things. 1 - They're way too big for earrings. 2 - The ink gets darker when it cooks. Oops. Oh well, this is a learning experience! So I made a couple hair clips.

And I love them so much that I'm keeping one. The other will either go in my shop or I'll save it for the Craftmas show.

Next experiment is of course TARDIS earrings. I mean, what else? Of course, as often happens, I got wrapped up in ~art~ of it all and didn't take progress photos but I drew 4 baby TARDISes (TARDI?) and filled them in with dark blue ink totally forgetting that the ink gets even darker after baking. This is no longer learning, it's become something else.

Glue is drying and I'm blogging. Hopefully they don't fall apart.
